Today is the third (and last on Kate) part of our view of a charming scammer called Ekaterina.  To keep things straight, I will refer to her as Kate.  This is a part of our investigative reports that will expose the tiniest part of a horrible scam that is perpetrated daily on men and women, in this and other countries.  This will be a series of blog posts, which could very well form the backbone of my fourth book.  Please read the copyright notice at the end of this post.

One fine day it starts…

Hello my dearest prince!

How are you? How is your mood?

Today I had a difficult day, but I had time to walk around Moscow and buy a gift for you.

Why was your day difficult?  What happened; can I do something to help my Princess?

I have prepared the documents and all necessary medical certificates and papers and gave them to the travel agency.

I had a long consultation with them and I was told me that I should have no any problems with getting a visa. My visa is valid for 90 days.

And it’s faster than I thought. Registration of my visa will be fast. Soon I will buy a ticket to you.   Also tell me how long can I stay with you there?

Tomorrow I’ll go back to the agency and find out when I should buy a ticket. I was told that I should buy my ticket tomorrow or after tomorrow.

Moscow is very big and expensive city. There are thousands of Bentley, Bugati and other expensive brands. There is a lot of skyscrapers and old buildings from the time of the Russian Empire. It looks very nice.

Our meeting will be very soon and I am so excited. But I am sure that everything will be perfect. I’ve never been abroad before and this is my first trip. I had never even flown on an airplane.

And I’m a little scared because of many airline crash. How many times did you fly on an airplane?

Okay, my friend is calling me now. She wants to show me some sights of Moscow.

How are you??? I want you to read this letter attentively.

I hope you understand that I my English is not very good but you will understand what I whant to say you.

I have not got any good news.  Today I went to the airport and bought the air ticket for April 18.

After that I went to the agency to say that everything is readyf or my trip and I can arrive to you.

In travel agency I was told that I should go to the embassy. I had to go to the embassy and had a conversation with the consul. But I was shocked when he said that I shall not receive the visa!!!

He explained me that the main requirement in reception of the visa it to convince your authorities that I have no any intention immigration in your country. ( that i do not want to stay in your country forever while my visa is a tour visa).

The consul said that I could receive the visa I should buy the air tickets in both ends.

I tried to explain that I do not want to stay in your country forever.

Because that my mum here and I shall come back necessarily.

But he said that it’s obligatory requirement and I shall receive the visa only when I shall show the air tickets in both ends.

Dear I haven’t enough money for the return ticket!!!

I mean I need to buy the round way tiket. I asked my friend But she can’t give it to me, unfortunately.
She can help me only with 50 dollars. But it is not enough.

I need for 600 $ US to arrive to you. I don’t know where i can find money!!! I do not know what to do.
I am awfully upset that I have not enough money to arrive to you.

Have you got any idea? Dear are you able to help me. I hope that we will do something.

My Beautiful Ekaterina. 

When we started corresponding I had no idea that you would be coming to the United States so quickly! If you recall, I asked very early on what you needed from me to make our dreams a reality.  I did this because I have just ordered a large print run on my latest book and do not have the $600 (right now) that we need for your return plane ticket.  It breaks my heart to tell you this but I prefer to be honest in all things.  I am very sorry; this not a permanent condition but I will not have that much money to send for at least another month, maybe longer

And then, along comes Kate.  She is the newest in our little parade of pulchritude and pathos.  In her own words:

Then in the next letter she is Kate. I can understand the name shortening and Americanization.  Our next post begins:

I to look much dating site and I to not remember where precisely I to see yours profile.

I am so glad to see your email today. I hope we will be good friends and maybe even more.

I do not remember if I have written you in my first email or not, but I live in Russian Federation, in the small city Tambov in Tambovskaya Oblast.

I will write you more about my city. It is not a megalopolis and not even the big city to write about fantastic skyscrapers or amazingly beautiful architectural constructions as in Moscow or St. Petersburg. I’m not very good with computers and sometimes it’s a big job for me to find something on the Internet. I can write very well only email, print out some documents or play solitaire.

I will tell you a little bit about my job. I work in the auto salon. Our company sells Russian cars Lada. Have you heart about that mark something?

I studied at the Faculty of Economics with an emphasis in English, so now I’m relatively well-know English.But I hope you can understand what I write. How do you like my English? I had several relationships, but not one of them ended well.

And I now think that all Russian men are almost the same. They can not love and be always with a woman and run for all the skirts are raised high.

So I decided to try to look for friends and maybe love in the other end of the world, because I am tired of loneliness and selfishness of others and pretend that I’m really interested for men.

Hello my dear friend, how is your day? What’s news?

Thanks for your picture I was glad see it, i think you good man.

Today is very sunny here. Our company concluded a couple of lucrative contracts and I have a very good mood.

I didn’t take my vacation for last two years and already think about the days off somewhere.

Frankly speaking I didn’t decide where exactly I will have the rest but I am sure it would be wonderful.

I should get my vacation on this week and I feel that I have no wish to work and count the days when it will be. 

My boss is my ex classmate. She has helped me to find this job.

We have very good relations. I would love to find out how is life there where you live?

I have never been abroad and I am very interested to know life and culture of your country.

As you know our country had the communist regime and my childhood was not very happy after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

As I wrote you before my mom brought me up alone. When the perestroika began we had the inflation at 10 000.

My mom had a lot of savings but after inflation we were poorer by 100 times and life became difficult.  All her life she worked at a military factory and there was no money in our new country to pay in time and to have a good salary.

So all people in our country lived so, except some swindlers who are oligarchs now and have the top places in Forbs.

Well I do not want to bore you about it … What kind of dishes do you like? And of what countries?  As for food I love Japanese cuisine: sushi, rolls.

I love to cook myself. There are plenty of Russian national dishes such as borsh, pancakes with cavier, okroshka, solyanka and others. But mostly it is soup. I would love also to find out what kind of women do you like?

I want to find someone who would always protect me, who does not drink every day and appreciate the woman as an individual.

Many Russian men beat often their women and always believe that they are above them. They consider that Russian women are like a slave and must obey any order.

I will never agree with that and hope to find a sincere, reliable man who can share my feelings.

 kristals:Hello my lovely knight in the shining armor,  I am so glad to see your letter again,I think I am a lucky girl to meet  such man and I will do my best to meet you in real life!

 you know I can work in any city of your area because it is free choice  and agency only  helps me to get only travel documents (work visa)and  ticket, and I do hope that we will like each other and now I have the   destination. The agency will also suggest some places to work in.

 I do hope I have met my right man!you know I have told you before one  of my friend worked  abroad last year and have met right man,now they live there and they are going to  marry. by the way now they are arranging the trip to Russia,(he wants   to meet her parents and friends)I think if I feel that you are my dream  and you have the  same feelings we could think about our future together. if not I will just work and return back when the time to travel back.

you know I am new here and I am afraid to make any mistake. I have one  great lack,I am very impatient sometimes  I can act without thinking. Sometimes I think that my  dream is getting for real and it is so bad to be disappointed later.

I want you to know all small things about me because it shouldn’t be any misunderstandings between us.

I  want you to know that I am not angel and sometimes I can show my character.And I don’t wait that you to be angel too, I just want to meet a kind man .

I am very kind and I can forgive almost all I can’t forgive if my man  sleep with different woman, I don’t know many nessesary words in english.

I belive in love and for me doesn’t important age of men who i will love. Because i know that love is a feeling without any stereotype.

My favorite activity is swimming. I like to swim in the Swimming pool  very much. I wish we had the sea here! I like the lake also!We have lake near us, but it is very cold one and It is  impossible to swim.We can swim there only in a hot days in summer. Sometimes I think that I was the fish in past life. I wanted to be as  swim trainer but I’ve been told that I will have ugly body with too wide shoulders.

I finished The Irkutsk State Univercity, trainers faculty as fitness  trainer but I don’t work on my profession because there are no good  fintess clubs in my city, I used to sit at home and to do all housework,helping my mom. I would  like to have good job,I may work dancing teacher, or trainer of fitness,you know I have a certificate.

 I worked as a trainer a year ago . and I would like to do it again .you know how many more younger girls
 want to get this job too!Alot of competition here. I want to tell you about things I like:

I like to make barbecue and I so much want to have my own home with  fireplace.

usually I make very tasty ones and in principle I like to cook and it  is not problem for me to cook something  tasty and I don’t like to visit cafes and restaurants ,at first usually  they can’t cook weel(maybe only here) and second too high price.

I like warm weather. and my great dream is to live somewhere on tropical island.

Also I want to tell you about my dislikes: I hate our long winters it  seems to me they will never end.

I hate lies and unfaithfulness. I hate evil people and politicans I  think they like to play wars, I hate any wars.

What I like in a man: faithfulness, honesty. He has to be open- minded and open-hearted, also easy-going. and much more important he is kind,kindness makes our world!

I think my man should be kind ,it is great feeling after love,only kind  person may be happy,all rude people are unhappy.

or must be. A few questions yet, one thing else about my trip. Agency will help me to rent a room to stay near my future work.

I will share this room with a few girls yet,it is usual procedure and it helps to pay the rent (it will be cheaper).

And I have a question, is it normal if we will like each other may be it is possible to live together?of course if you or somebody doesn’t mind.

As you know I will stay there for three months but If I will like there I will be able to prolong my trip.

I think I will be able to improve my english and you can learn Russian  and I think it will help us to learn each other better,who knows.

Do you have a big wide bed?(joke).I think we will enjoy life together.

 do you have your car? I can’t drive and I do hope you give me a few lessons, to be fair I have so many plans .I will find out all travel details  about my flight this week. I will leave my town today in a two hours and i think I will be not   able to write to you today or so. When I am in to Moscow I will send you short
 letter to let you know that I am all right and they tell that it takes about two days to  get all nesseary papers,

Now we come to a real bombshell.  She first called herself Kristal; then upon my encouraging eMail, she became Olga Flippova.  She is a stunner by any  measure and if it were only true!  Here is part of her story:

One fine Spring day, as I work on my third book in my home in Homosassa, along comes an email – right out of the blue…  Please remember that I am leaving all the spelling and punctuation errors in this series, so that my readers can recognize the patterns of speech and grammar.

it is my first time I try to correspondence with man in Int. world.

I found you in windows live. I want you to know that I have only good intentions and I have not any secrets.

The thing is that I will work in your country for three months or so and I would like to meet a nice man to fall in love  or just be closest friends.

I don’t want to live in Russia because I have not any chances  here,it is hardly possible to explain from first time but I want you to know my plans.I will work in  any shop, bar or restaurant the agency that i am going through will suggest me some locations. My best friend last year met the man from  the USA when she worked there for three months, too. She had two jobs. From morning till 4 pm  she worked in amusement park and after it she worked as a waitress in some bar till midnight. She was very  tired of course but made very good money there.

It is special programm for young people who wants to work abroad and I  think it is the right way for me, I am lost here,and I think that I look pretty enough to find a better place .I want to repeat the same  way,it is only my chance to meet a nice man.I want to work in USA or in Europe or any nice country. I am full of plans and different dreams and I want to share my life with good man because I’m also full of love and tenderness,I know that I am not so beautiful like Hollywood Princess but I do hope to meet my Prince and I am sure he will be not be disappoined to meet me in the real life! This is why I am going to go through the same way.

At first I think I have to say that I am new in cyber space and I have only good intentions. you should know that I am not very good writer in english,please be patient to read my messages and see many mistakes.to be fair I don’t know what you want to know about me,in principle First of all I wish to ask your full name, mine Olga Flippova.

I am usual girl.I think I should tell you about me, my interests,tastes and hobbies.I think I will tell you about things I want to know about you and you will know my future questions. I am 25 years old, my birthday is 18 August  1985.

I so much don’t want to get older ,when I can see old women I am getting crazy to think that it is my future .I do all the best to keep my youth and I keep my body well.In spite of all difficultes here I am trying to be in good condition and I do a lot of exercises to be in good shape!

Thank you for contacting me, I do want to try and help you understand where I am coming from and how much I love my dad.

I above anyone on this earth have wanted for YEARS for my dad to find happiness.  He is the type of man that finds the good in any situation and anyone.  He has made the best of the chaos he has had to live in for the past 10 years.  He is loved by all that meet him and brings to a smile to everyone he comes in contact with.  He is a good man and deserves a happy peaceful life.  I want you to be real, for him, for his future but there is this nagging voice in the back of my head and heart that tells me not to trust you.  Set aside all of the poetic lyrics and romantic dreams and these are the warnings and red flags I have come across time after time on each item you have given or asked of my dad.

 1.  When I first learned of your communication with my dad I googled dating in Ghana– first 15 things that came up were warnings of scammers that professed love just like you are professing to my dad.  Quick and wildly romantic. 

2.  The more I looked the more your pictures resembled the others that have been scammed.

3.  One of the warnings that were common in each scam were a sick mother getting deathly ill and needing money.  It wasn’t 1 week later that your mom, whom you had been setting the stage with telling my dad about the stove being tricky/broken whatever and that you worried she would one day burn herself, claimed to have burn almost to death and you needed money from my dad.

4.  Your mom was in a hospital that could not be found????? 

5.  You asked for a large sum of money from a person you have “known” for a couple of months?!?!  Who does that?  I would NEVER ask for money from someone that I hardly knew, much less never met in person.

6.  You gave my dad a “Declaration Fee Note” so I google it- the first 15 items come up warning me that this is not real.  I can’t find one thing that states that this is a real form, even from the Ghana Embassy.  Again asking for $5,000 now! My dad is not made of money and does not have $7,000 to blow on something that isn’t real.

7.  I check out the names on the form- again not real.  I understand there are many people out there with the same last name but I also understand if I google “George Bush in the United States” the important George Bush will come up before some common guy from Alabama comes up looking for love on Netlog!  So I look up the Chief of Staff Officer– again not the right name.  So my dad tells you that the information is not current- then you say “Oh yeah that’s an old form” – NOT a good way of covering your tracts.

8.  Then we google you.  Your picture comes up with warnings attached stating you have scammed others using the name Lolita and Suzi and who knows what else.  Fact is if you look up my photo you will not find it scattered all over the Internet as a scam or a porn star, and I would expect the majority of the people that you google would not come up that way, so that this is all a coincidence is not looking good. For one it is sordof embarrassing that my step-mom was the one that found it and second that now my brothers are aware that you masturbate and show nude pictures of yourself for money.  I don’t care how hard up for money you are, this is not an acceptable way to get money.  If you are real, how embarrassing would that be for my brothers to have their friends google you and find that!  It makes me shake my head just thinking about it.  They are boys, but they are good boys and deserve a good and decent stepmom.  You claim those are old pictures but the ones you sent dad holding his picture were of you in the exact same chair with the exact same outfit on with your hair the exact same way.  Now come on, we are girls, we are not going to just happen to look the exact same in two pictures supposedly taken a couple of years apart.

9.  I googled your name- not a single person did I find with the last name of Nartey was white…

 Whoever you are- I am not willing to sacrifice my dad for you.  You ask him to come see you.  Ok, this is my problem with that.  Nothing you have said has equaled up- if he goes over there and you are real and you come back great, I will apologize.  If you are NOT real, but my dad goes over there and you end up kidnapping him, torturing him for money, or worse killing him I would loose my mind!  He has 3 sons, a daughter and a grand-daughter that love him too much to risk loosing him forever.  You may think that this sounds crazy or dramatic but hell this whole situation you have had with him has been crazy and dramatic.  At this point, anything is possible.  You live in a country that is not protected the way we are here and even here there are politics and bad people in government positions so anything can happen.  All in all, I don’t have a good feeling about this and bottom line I am NOT willing to risk my dad’s life to find out if this is real.  I am sorry but he is too important to us.

I was only giving out an idea I could rely and bank on. Truely speaking, i made up my mind not to fall in love again but ever since you came in to my life every thing changed. Why is it that you only bring up this scam thing when ever I ask you for help? I have tried dear tried to make this work for us. You think I love it when they call me that name. How do you feel when you are call something you are not? I don’t know what to think dear. I have cried all night , wondering If you still love me. You put me into more pain when I need your help the most.

Lex: I wonder how much of this is out there. Kimberly does not want me to come there for fear of my life. There are people nation wide upset at you !! One person tells of going to see you and is attacked and robbed when he arrives Accra .. The risks over the rewards is there !! I want to believe but every day the odds of you being real dwindle . I have tried to convince Kimberly but she is at zero and taking a stand for my safety and sanity !! Today will be a day I pray for reason to continue !! I love you .. Lex

Lex: That’s just IT , you are there and I am here for you !! My children have asked me not to send money until we have touched and confirmed this relationship. I will honor their request. After we have spent time together I will search my heart and move us in the right direction for success !! I am onboard with this even with all the negative daggers that have flown my way!! Until I get there you will need to go into survival mode or seek help ! From the web sites alone somebody owes you a bunch of money !!! Just
coming to see you will cost me 2000$ in overtime pay to cover my absence. I am investing in this !!   I love you !! Lex

Lex:  Every week you have a 2000$ emergency . This is what your country advises Americans to avoid!! Like the employee at the photo shop when you needed 5000$ for visa , the scammers make it hard for you.

As all of this has transpired, I believe that the sequence of events was that our ‘Mandy’ had 30+ sets of photographs taken, the subject matter being soft porn.  At that time she would have been 25-30 (about right) if she is 38 today.   This occurred apparently, back in the late 90’s – early 2000’s.  Subscriptions were sold to (presumably) men (and boy’s?) for monthly access.  This was probably late in the game as our ‘Mandy’ has sold her photos all over the net, under an incredibly long list of names.

 Three days after I published the first part of this expose on my blog, in came a note from a ‘Concerned Daughter’.  It seems that her Dad (Lex) had been contacted months ago (remember, ‘our’ little fling lasted ten days) by a charming and beautiful woman from Accra, Ghana.  It seems that her name was Helina Nartey!  (Where have I heard that name before??).  She also uses a name called Mrs. Jones.

 The concerned daughter Kim’s story begins thus:

 In a message (to me) dated 4/2/2011 11:46:31 P.M. Eastern Daylight Time, kimberly@gmail.com writes:

 Hello, I am writing because my dad is being scammed as we speak by this Helina lady, man, whoever it is.  I was wondering- does she ever admit that she is not real?  My dad actually plans on flying over to Ghana and I am trying my hardest to convince him otherwise!  She has sent my dad her “birth certificate” and a “Declaration Fee Note” – I found faults in both documents but my dad still believes her to be true.  It is very frustrating as an outsider looking in.  Do you have any words of advice?

In reality, she secured her airtime money from another interested person, as you will discover in subsequent posts.

I told her I was coming to Ghana, that I would resolve all open issues.

Her next text message came in the form of a plea.  It seems that her mother set their apartment on fire and that she was very badly burned.  She asked me for $1,000 so that she might be treated.  I refused to send the money, saying I would pay all outstanding debts when I arrived in Ghana on 14, April.  That didn’t go over well.

A little time passed.  BUZZ goes my cell phone.  Helina called from ‘Ghana’.  I must say that the Caller ID spoof that they used was very effective!  It almost fooled me but there were too many inconsistencies along the way.

I told her:

• That she was no more in Ghana than I was.
• That the electrical outlet in one of her pictures carried an Underwriters Lab patent.  That this outlet was only used in North America, and that it was not capable of carrying the 220V power, standard in Ghana.
• That I had found photographs on the Internet that matched the photos that she had sent me from Ghana. I had analyzed the photos and they were the same, same camera, exposure, density, and dates of creation. 
• The furniture matched in the Internet photos and her ‘Ghana’ photos and that she was a fraud.

Time passes and the phone rings again.  Please, Please help me, my mother is dying and that I am her only hope.  NO, same story.

Closely following Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, the next call was full of anger, recriminations, and tears.  Protestations of why I was doing this to her and that it was unfair to call her a fraud when she just asked for a little mercy and help. Yada Yada…

I told my dear Helina that I was done with ‘This Play’ and that I wished both her and her mother Godspeed.

And then, one final plea from my dear Helina.  She sent me four photos that were purportedly taken of her at a recent “Baby Naming” ceremony in Ghana.  She pleaded that “was this not proof that she was who she said that she was?  If you look at the four pictures (all four will be in the coming book), you see that the faces are taken from two different sides, and that they are at varying zoom factors, and each is a different dress – but the face is the same, even down to the flirtatious strand of hair that runs down the (her) right side of her beautiful face. 

Look at the picture closely (if you choose).  You will notice that the dress detail is very sharp but the face is somewhat blurry.  These are the ‘footprints’ of Photoshop alterations. No, not evidence of bonafide; confirmation of attempted fraud!

UPDATE AND APOLOGY:  At the beginning of this series of articles, I named one Amanda Burrell as the ‘real’ name of this delightful litter scammer.  In fairness, I qualified it with the statement that lots of people have the name “Amanda Burrell”.  I’ve made a lot of progress in the last four days and have found a number of ‘aliases’ for this doe-eyed beauty, including: Audrey Lenon, Renee Roe, Kelsey Hess, Nancy Milman, Raven, Sandra, Jonesley Marcus, Colleen Smith, Suzzy Love, Heather Swain, Lolita Brown, and Rose Akogo.  I credit a friend named Lex, and his daughter Kim, from the southwest part of our great land, for much of this information.  It seems that he was fooled, much the same as I.  He is indeed fortunate, to have family that casually monitors his activities, making sure that he does not step into one of life’s many ‘holes’!
